Are you ready to trade your sleep-inducing monotone for a richer and more exciting sound? In this two-hour workshop for instructors, staff members and graduate students in instructional roles you will learn to apply the musician’s tools of melody and rhythm to become a more confident, colourful and dynamic speaker. The session will be facilitated by CEE voice specialist Sanders Whiting, who draws on his extensive background in music, theatre and education.

Speaking in a melodic and dynamic way can make your content more interesting, persuasive and memorable. This workshop will give you the knowledge and techniques you need to enhance the melodic and rhythmic qualities of your speech.

Outcomes

You will learn how to:

Increase your pitch range to create an exciting vocal line and avoid monotonous speech production

Use a variety of cadences to captivate your audience

Use consonants to make your meaning clearer and easier to understand

Take advantage of pauses and repetition to frame important words and phrases
