Foundations of handbuilding for families with Tony

Welcome to our exciting Handbuilding Class for Families! This engaging and hands-on workshop offers any artist, young or old, the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of clay and unleash their creativity. Throughout this class, adults & children will learn and practice various hand sculpting techniques to build their very own clay creations from start to finish.

Our foundation of handbuilding class is designed to provide a solid introduction to the art of working with clay. It caters to adults and children of all skill levels, whether they are beginners or have some prior experience. Our knowledgeable instructors will guide participants through every step of the process, ensuring they gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of handbuilding.

To begin, participants will learn about the different types of clay and its unique properties. They will discover how to prepare the clay, including kneading and wedging techniques to achieve the perfect consistency for sculpting. Safety guidelines will also be emphasized, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Once the basics are covered, the participants will delve into the exciting world of hand sculpting techniques. They will explore techniques such as pinch pots, coiling, slab construction, and adding textures and details to their creations. The instructors will demonstrate each technique and provide individualized attention to help participants master their skills.

Throughout the class, creativity will be encouraged and nurtured. Participants will have the freedom to let their imaginations run wild as they decide what to create. Whether it's a whimsical animal, a functional ceramic dish, or a fantastical sculpture, their imagination will be the only limit.

As the class progresses, the participants will learn about the importance of patience and observation in clay work. They will develop an understanding of the drying and firing processes and how these affect the final outcome of their creations. They will also have an opportunity to explore different surface treatment techniques, including glazing and painting, to add color and bring their pieces to life once their pieces dry for additional $10.

At the end of the class, each participant will have completed a unique clay creation, from its initial conception to the finished piece. They will gain a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work and will have developed new skills and knowledge in the world of handbuilding.
