About Michael Nikulin
Michael Nikulin, who was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, pursued studies in guitar, voice, piano, and composition at Kyiv’s University of Music by R.M. Gliera until 2014. Upon relocating to Canada, he transitioned his primary career to become an IT professional. However, his love for music never waned, as it has always been an integral part of his being. In addition to his IT profession, he devoted his time to sharing his musical talents through teaching, performing, composing, and collaborating with other artists. His musical journey led him to Vienna, Austria, where he immersed himself in the intricacies of the German language and dedicated his efforts to studying the Lied genre, particularly exploring the compositions of Franz Schubert.
During his time in Vienna, Michael poured his creativity into crafting over 80 arrangements of Franz Schubert's works. These arrangements included solo guitar pieces and songs tailored for voice and guitar accompaniment. By creating these adaptations, Michael aimed to make the captivating melodies of Schubert accessible to a wider audience, allowing music enthusiasts to experience the beauty of these compositions even without a piano or a pianist's accompaniment. Through his dedication and artistic expression, Michael continued to enrich the musical landscape and bring joy to those who appreciate the enchanting harmonies of classical music.

Bach to Rautavaara. View a new program every Friday at youtube.com/@theindependentpianist He is also active in ongoing collaborative projects and maintains a private teaching studio.
