Topic: Promoting Healthy Diets for Children and Adolescents in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Keynote Speakers:

Dr. Jessica Fanzo is the Bloomberg Distinguished Associate Professor of Global Food and Agriculture Policy and Ethics at the Berman Institute of Bioethics, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at the Johns Hopkins University in the USA. She also serves as the Director of Hopkins’ Global Food Policy and Ethics Program. From 2017 to 2019, Jessica served as the Co-Chair of the Global Nutrition Report and the UN High Level Panel of Experts on Food Systems and Nutrition. Before coming to Hopkins, she has also held positions at Columbia University, the Earth Institute, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Food Programme, Bioversity International, and the Millennium Development Goal Centre at the World Agroforestry Center in Kenya. Jessica has a PhD in nutrition from the University of Arizona.

Dr. Sorrel Namaste is the Senior Nutrition Technical Advisor with ICF working on The Demographic and Health Surveys Program, providing technical assistance for the implementation of household surveys. Sorrel has experience in international survey data collection and applied research, with specific expertise in nutritional assessment. Prior to joining The DHS Program, she was the Anemia Team Lead for the USAID-funded SPRING project. In this capacity, she provided technical assistance to governments to develop national strategies and conducted implementation nutrition research. Previously, she also worked for the National Institutes of Health where she was responsible for supporting large-scale global nutrition research projects. While there, she served as the co-principal investigator on the Biomarkers Reflecting Inflammation and Nutrition Determinants of Anemia (BRINDA) Project, supported the establishment of the Biomarkers of Nutrition for Development (BOND) Program, and was the Program Manager for the Iron and Malaria Safety Project. Sorrel holds a DrPH from George Washington University and an MHS from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Global Epidemiology.

Dr. Lynnette M. Neufeld strives to mobilize intellectual resources to improve the health and nutrition of populations, using strategic research to inform better program design and implementation. Dr. Neufeld is actively involved in the global nutrition community, serving on several boards and technical advisory groups and President Elect of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences. Currently part of Senior Management at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), where she leads a team dedicated to research, evaluation, and knowledge mobilization. Dr. Neufeld was Director of the Division of Nutritional Epidemiology at the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) in Mexico. Dr. Neufeld has an active research and program evaluations portfolio in several countries in Asia and Africa. She is Adjunct Professor in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and Visiting Professor at INSP. She has published over 100 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters.
