Goh Ballet's The Nutcracker 2024 Open Auditions

Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker is staged at the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Theatre from December 19 to December 22, 2024.

Audition for a chance to be part of Vancouver’s very own Nutcracker production where you will have the opportunity to work and perform alongside International guest artists. All dancers aged 6 and up are welcome to join us this April 28, 2024 to audition for select Act I and Act II ensemble and soloist roles.

Small Children | Ages 6 & 7 yrs | 11:00am – 12:30pm

Tall Children | Ages 8-10 yrs | 1:00pm – 3:00pm :(Tall children might be required to stay longer for the intermediate group)

Intermediate | 11 yrs and up (*have not yet completed RAD Intermediate Exam) | 3:30pm – 5:00pm:(Intermediate might be required to stay longer for the senior group)

Seniors | Minimum completed RAD Intermediate Exam| 5:30pm - 7:00pm

**For consideration of roles en pointe, dancers participating in the Intermediate Audition with pointe work experience may be requested to put on pointe shoes. Dancers participating in the Senior Audition will be requested to wear pointe shoes for the duration of the audition.**

Please arrive at least 30 minutes but no more than 1 hour before the audition starts time for check-in and individual warm-up.

Dress Code

Ladies: Ladies may audition in any color leotard, tights, and ballet slippers, with hair tied neatly in a bun. Short skirts may be worn. No jewelry or watches. Pointe shoes may be worn for the Intermediate and Senior auditions.

Gentlemen: Gentlemen may audition in form-fitting T-shirt, tights, and ballet slippers, with hair styled away from the face. No jewelry or watches.

For safety reasons, glasses must be removed for all run-throughs, dress rehearsals, and performances, including outreach events for Nutcracker. Any visible piercings and tattoos must be covered or removed for these events.

Rehearsal Arrangements

A mandatory casting call will be held on either September 7 or September 8, 2024. All cast members who have accepted a role in Goh ballet's The Nutcracker 2024 are required to attend this casting call session. Roles may be relinquished from dancers not in attendance.

Rehearsals will begin in mid-September and will continue until the conclusion of performances.

Senior-level dancers must be available for rehearsals on Friday afternoons/evenings and Sundays.

Children, Junior and Intermediate level dancers must be available for rehearsals on Sundays.

All cast members must be available for in-studio dress rehearsals between December 8 -15, 2024. Production week is scheduled from December 16 - 22, 2024 - the cast will be rehearsing and performing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. All cast members must be available every day for the dress rehearsal period and production week.

Audition Cancellation and No-show Policy

Please note that no refunds will be provided for cancellations or no-shows. Registered dancers who will miss the audition for any reason must inform us via email as soon as possible: nutcracker@gohballet.com

A make-up audition may be scheduled later in the year, but this cannot be guaranteed. Dancers attending the make-up audition will be considered for any remaining roles and subject to availability. Dancers who registered but are unable to attend the first audition (April 28) due to last-minute illness or injury may transfer their audition fee to the makeup session by providing a doctor's note.

Production fee

Dancers who are cast in Goh Ballet's The Nutcracker 2024 production are required to pay a $395 + GST non-refundable production fee which includes all rehearsals, performances, costume fittings, alterations and hair/headpieces. Please note that some roles require specific shoes and enhanced make-up items for an additional fee.
