About this event

Are you a rural Alberta high school student (grades 9 to 12) interested in a helping profession, or working in a health career after high school? Would you like to explore the various options and opportunities?

Could a career in rural nursing be in your future? Have you thought about becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Health Care Aide (HCA)?

You may be wondering about:

  • What is the difference between the various nursing professions?
  • Which post-secondary institutions have programs for me?
  • How can I start preparing now for my future college/university application?
  • What does rural nursing have to offer?

If you have questions swirling around in your head and you wonder if a career in health care might be an option, we have a special invitation for YOU!

The Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) is pleased to offer:

Let’s Go Rural – How Do I Get There? - Nursing Careers - Post-secondary Pathway

Tuesday, March 5th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This will be the second virtual conversation in a three-part series about the path to nursing careers. Missed the first one? No problem! This will have great stand-alone information about post-secondary programs near you, offerings designed specifically for rural students, and information about what makes rural nursing special and unique. Come learn more about the journey to health careers that can see students like yourself in the field in as little as two years out of high school!

These jobs may be rewarding in and of themselves, or a pathway to other options, and include careers such as a HCA, LPN, RN, or NP.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear from program instructors at post-secondary institutions in the Northern areas of the province, including Northwestern Polytechnic, Northern Lakes College, Portage College, Keyano College and NorQuest College.
  • Listen to stories from current post-secondary students and hear why they are interested in living and working in rural Alberta after they graduate.
  • Ask questions and engage in conversation with people who want to help you succeed in your future career!

This free interactive Zoom session is available only to rural Alberta high school students (school must be located in a town with a population less than 15,000).

We will email you the zoom link prior to the session date/time.
