Event description

Description

Join us for an introduction to herbal medicine and ecological gardening as we explore a variety of easy to grow medicinal plants. We’ll talk about their ecological importance, growing preferences, folklore and their practical medicinal uses. Guests attending this workshop will make their own medicine and have a chance to take plants home.

Vanessa Prescott is an Island-based Clinical Herbal Therapist with an easy-going approach to Herbal Medicine. Her aim is to empower people to take their health into their own hands and to show people the effectiveness of plants as medicine, strengthening Herbal Medicine’s credibility. “Practicing Herbal Medicine is kind of a rebellious act considering the over prescription of pharmaceutical drugs happening today. I have kind of a fearless approach when it comes to Herbal Medicine and I want to share that confidence in plants!”

Matt Gravel is a Victoria based permaculturist with a passion for living and sustainable systems. Captivated by nature and the outdoors at a young age, he comes by this honestly. With 10 years property maintenance and conventional landscaping experience, he became tired of the unsustainable and non-regenerative practices in urban environments and wanted to find a way to change urban spaces. Now Matt operates and small nursery, design and education business; Plant Buoy: Life Preservation Plants and is using this as a platform to empower and teach people low maintenance, easy to manage systems that can grow nutrient dense food and medicine while working with the constraints of nature and regenerating urban landscapes.
