Description

Gratitude

We are pleased if you would grace us at our Island wedding and celebration at the wonderful OUR Ecovillage! Complete with a short ceremony, dancing, singing, African music and a complete meal utilising locally grown food!

You must register by June 24th so that enough food, tables, chairs and such can be ordered in time.

Meal

As our funds are limited we ask that you cover the cost of your meal at our event. Alternatively you can bring a bagged lunch. Do not feel you have to give anything else (if you would like to, we offer a suggestion below). We simply want you to celebrate with us! Your meal must be reserved two weeks in advance so that the OUR Ecovillage can adequately prepare it. You must click on this link to reserve your meal(s). If you are bringing your own food, PLEASE let Ian know by clicking on "the Contact button on the bottom of this page. We need to know how many people will be on-site! :-) Completing this Eventbrite process does not purchase your meal but merely allows Julia and I know who we can expect and to communicate with you if needed. The link above takes you to OUR Ecovillage and purchases you a meal(s). If you have a child or children to bring please let me know. I expect a lower price can be arranged.

Venue

The activities will occur on a level field. Please wear appropriate footwear such as good walking shoes. High heels may aerate the field, but you might get stuck. So, not highly recommended... There is a lovely pond nearby, the meal will be enjoyed under a huge tent, and you might want to bring a hat and bug spray. It is a beautiful spot! Please dress for the weather as you would for a picnic, and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Travel

Please carpool or (from Nanaimo) take the bus! On-site parking is limited. Travelling together extends the joy and reduces both air pollution and the risk of an accident. To reserve a place on the bus leaving Nanaimo (costs only $20 return) please click on this link.

If you must drive, zoom in on the map found on this page. Please note that parking on-site is limited. There is lots of room to park on the Baldy Mountain Rd just before entering the OUR Ecovillage (immediately after the only mailboxes on that road). From Highway #1 take the Shawnigan Lake-Mill Bay Rd. Turn left on to Sylvester Rd. After about a KM turn right on to Baldy Mountain Rd. The OUR Ecovillage lane is on your right immediately after the mailboxes. Look for the sign at the road.

Gifts

As we are already tasked with combining two homes we do not need any gifts ourselves! However, we really love the idea of planting fruit and nut trees that provide food for locals, either at the eco-educational OUR Ecovillage (the site of our wedding) or through the non-profit Young Leaders Uganda who will plant trees that provide fruit to school children. A tax receipt can be given only for the OUR Ecovillage donation. To give to either please go to Ian's blog: Fruit or Nut Trees Gifts.

Please note that the donation for Uganda will be channelled through Ian's energy company as this is the only way he could get PayPal to cooperate! You will receive an e-mail confirmation of its receipt. After the weddings funds will be transferred through to the appropriate organisation. Ian will cover the funds transfer fee.

We look forward to celebrating with you!
