Software Developer

Location: Weston Road & Steeles Ave W, Vaughan

Organization Overview: Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Vaughan, TECHCOM (www.techcomnet.com) has created comprehensive technology platforms for strategic process management solutions allowing organizations to effectively communicate, interact and collaborate across and outside their organization.

Position Overview: A progressive opportunity in the development and maintenance of custom web-based software applications. Involvement in projects will consist of support, development, testing and deployment of small/straight-forward to large/complex projects for many large Canadian companies across multiple industries. Successful team members in this role have strong skills in business requirement analysis, creative thinking, problem solving, collaboration and communication.

General Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Interpret business requirements and technical specifications in order to deliver a solution (either a new solution, an enhancement to an existing solution, or a break fix item for an existing solution);
  • Perform coding to business requirements/technical specifications, industry standards and internal standards/design guidelines;
  • Investigate, analyze and document defects; perform maintenance programming and correction of defects;
  • Create, document and implement unit test plans and scripts;
  • Create and maintain business and/or technical documentation using defined documentation templates;
  • Provide support to TECHCOM clients, including participating in on-call and/or onsite support for internal and client users;
  • Flexible attitude, ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks, and perform under pressure on multiple initiatives/projects simultaneously in a very fast paced environment;
  • Commitment to quality and a well thought out approach to assignments; and
  • Ability to work well within a team and follow TECHCOM processes and policies.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have fast typing skills and a solid ability (and desire) to multi-task;
  • Excellent programming knowledge and expertise with PHP, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, HTML, Bash;
  • Highly proficient in administering and supporting multiple/complex databases in MySQL and/or Percona, and the ability to analyze complex data;
  • Conversant in AJAX, SOAP, XML, C#, Visual Basic or Oracle is beneficial;
  • Knowledge of approach to application security is ideal;
  • Fully comfortable in both a Linux (shell) and Windows (IDE such as PHPStorm) environment;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Fully fluent in English (speaking, reading and writing; fluency in French is an asset that should be highlighted if applicable);
  • Meeting deadlines for deliverables, and doing things right the first time; and
  • Working with a diverse audience, including effectively working individually or in a team environment.

Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst or Lead

Location: Weston Road & Steeles Ave W, Vaughan

Position Overview: A progressive opportunity in the development and maintenance of custom web-based software applications. This position involves creation, execution and reporting on test plans and procedures for small/straight-forward to large/complex projects for many large Canadian companies across multiple industries. Together with our Development team, candidates must ensure TECHCOM products maintain a high degree of quality, and drive improvements in code quality via manual and automated testing. Candidates must also have strong skills in analysis, attention to detail, problem solving, collaboration and communication.

General Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Participating in and supporting the day-to-day QA activities, and if in a QA Lead role, accountable for QA overall;
  • Interpret business requirements and technical specifications in order to appropriately test or validate a solution (either a new solution, an enhancement to an existing solution, or a break fix item for an existing solution);
  • Create and execute test plans/cases/scripts based on client and internal details, including regression testing if applicable;
  • Investigate, analyze, report and document defects; monitor and track resolution; test the correction of identified defects;
  • Prepare test summary reports or documentation;
  • Provide support to TECHCOM clients, including supporting client QA planning, execution and ‘lessons learned’ meetings;
  • Contribute to the drafting and finalization of training materials (internal and for clients) and support end user training;
  • Flexible attitude, ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks, and perform under pressure on multiple initiatives/projects simultaneously in a very fast paced environment;
  • Commitment to quality and a well thought out approach to assignments;
  • Ability to work well within a team and follow TECHCOM processes and policies; and
  • Create and maintain business and/or technical documentation using defined documentation templates.


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Must have excellent attention to detail;
  • Strong knowledge of QA processes and techniques, and a solid knowledge of SDLC methodologies and test management tools;
  • Must have fast typing skills and a strong ability (and desire) to multi-task;
  • Very strong oral and written communication skills so as to communicate clearly and effectively;
  • Fully fluent in English (speaking, reading and writing; fluency in French is an asset that should be highlighted if applicable);
  • High degree of proficiency using Microsoft software products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio;
  • Ability to collect and analyze complex data;
  • Working with a diverse audience, including effectively working individually or in a team environment; and
  • Candidates must also be prepared for a flexible working schedule (if required; will vary depending on business needs) and to complete a criminal and credit background check.
