Time: Sunday, May 26, 2024 @ 1:00 pm

Location: Suite 500 -167 Lombard Avenue (Launch Coworking - Exchange)

Duration: 3 hours

Required: Windows, Mac or Linux computer with a copy of StarTools software installed.

Supplied: Sample images provided.

Preparation: Install the StarTools software.

Facilitator: Richard Konrad

This hands-on workshop will be led by Richard Konrad, a well-known expert in the use of StarTools.

Participation requires bringing your laptop computer (PC, Mac, or Linux) with a copy of StarTools (https://www.startools.org) installed. A fully functioning demo version of StarTools is available free of charge. The free copy is limited only by its ability to save an image after processing. If you wish to purchase StarTools, the current price is 69 Australian dollars.

Richard will provide the sample images that will be used in the workshop. One will be a tri-colour RGB image, the other an OSC colour image. During the workshop, you will be provided with raw image files (stacked, with flats and darks applied) for processing (StarTools does not do this). We will work with these images collectively: the first will be on a “do as I do” basis following Richard’s lead; the second will allow you to apply some of your own creative talents.

StarTools is a very powerful program and the workshop will not be able to demonstrate all of its capabilities, but even if you use other software, the workshop will give you an appreciation of some of the techniques available.

You will find this workshop useful whatever your level of night-sky photography: Auroras, Milky Way, camera-mounted trackers or through-the-telescope imaging.

There is no charge; but participation is strictly limited to 12 RASC members. The target audience is intermediate; however RASC Winnipeg members who are into Astrophotography at all skill levels are welcome.
