Just over a decade ago, the Cree Nation Government repatriated sole responsibility for the administration of justice and correctional services within its areas of jurisdiction. This autonomy allowed the Cree people to establish a truly indigenous system of justice that honour and respect Cree ideals, values and ways.
To build on the progress of the past decade, and to create a dialogue of the future of Indigenous justice and reconciliation, the Department of Justice and Correctional Services will convene the inaugural conference Indigenous People’s Justice: Reconciliation and Capacity Building.
