About Jim Barnum, RYT-200:
"In 1992 I saw a yoga Sun Salutation in “Ski Freak Radical”, a hippie skiing magazine. With a strong internal “yes” to this weird and mysterious thing, I was hooked, practicing daily, finding it supported my professional snowboarding pursuits physically and mentally. After my Sun Sals I’d mess around, exploring movement & breath on my own. I found myself in various poses that I now know to be classic asanas such as Natarajasana / Dancer’s Pose, & moving in ways that I now know to be Qi Gong. This intuitive foundation led to my passion for spontaneous, self-inspired yoga, which is also a principle at the school where I received my Yoga Alliance 200 Hour Teacher Training. I learned from my lineage-carrying teacher that while it’s vital to understand the precise postures, it’s equally important to freely find the expression that best serves you - that simply feels really good - on any given day.
I’ve worked in my passions (snowboarding, skateboarding, yoga, self-actualization) for nearly my entire adult life, co-facilitating personal growth workshops, breathwork ceremonies, men’s circles and now teaching yoga. My training is in Ashtanga yoga, so classes typically include a number of limbs beyond asana / physical poses, including pranayama (breathwork) & meditation. My classes are both light hearted & deeply reverent."
