CREATING PARTNERSHIPS TO FIGHT HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Human trafficking is a profit-motivated crime. According to the U.N., human trafficking is the fastest growing and the third most lucrative criminal industry in the world today, with traffickers making $32 billion annually. Removing the illegal profit and property that facilitates this crime is an effective crime prevention strategy that will be explored at the conference.

In March 2018, the Toronto Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police will co-host the International Human Trafficking Training & Awareness Conference. This three day program is designed to provide comprehensive training and awareness to global stakeholders in the fight against human trafficking. The conference will focus on victim/survivor support, the use of enhanced technology and will provide extensive material on the role of the financial investigator. This event serves as an innovative, integrated approach to enhance community safety and to support improved interactions and experiences of victims/survivors during human trafficking investigations. Our strategic goal is to create and strengthen the partnerships between the community, government and private corporations to jointly fight human trafficking in all its forms.

Expert speakers from law enforcement, NGOs, financial institutions, healthcare, technology providers, and key government agencies, from Canada and abroad, will provide an incredible training and awareness opportunity for attendees. Presentations will include investigative strategies, methods to identify and support victims/survivors, the use of innovative technology, policy landscapes, and successful partnership strategies. This conference will provide attendees with access to insights from around the world to enable cross industry partnerships and develop expertise to fight human trafficking.
