Description

7th Edition:

EARLY CHILDHOOD AND THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION: TODDLERS AND THEIR RIGHTS IN RELATION TO ARTICLES 28 AND 29 OF THE UN CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD

Since 2012, the International Summer Course on the Rights of the Child has provided a unique opportunity for professionals to advance the children’s rights agenda and to strengthen and expand expertise. Available to any person and/or professional with an intentional interest in children’s rights, the summer course helps to strengthen national capacities to defend the rights of all children. This has been made evident by the growing participation of institutional actors such as child and youth advocates, lawyers, professionals in the fields of health, education, early childhood studies, and social work, and many others. In addition to a learning event it is a wonderful occasion for network development and collaboration.

The 7th International Summer Course on the Rights of the Child will focus on early childhood and the right to education. Through the lens of children’s rights, the course will explore what can and is being done in a myriad of fields to better promote and support early learning and development. A transversal theme throughout the 5-day course will centre on the recognition of young children as inherent human rights holders.

This summer course offers a unique opportunity for professionals to come together in a concerted effort to advance children’s rights in early childhood through multiple entry points. Through an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge exchange, the summer course will include shared insight from educators, researchers, health practitioners, social workers, law professionals, and many more. Given the focus of this year’s course, we particularly encourage frontline professionals such as early childhood educators, child life specialists, and family support practitioners to participate in the conversation.
