Come to join J J Bui Piano recital, enjoy beautiful music of Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin and Tchaikovsky.

Toronto-native J J Jun Li Bui won his first piano competition on the day he turned 7, which cemented his commitment to music: he went on to prizes in several Canadian contests, as well as the Hanoi (Vietnam), Aarhus (Denmark), and Midwest (United States) International Piano Competitions. Currently in his third year of full scholarship at The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at The Royal Conservatory Toronto under Michael Berkovsky, He has performed in recitals across Canada, and with orchestras, includes Oakville Chamber Orchestra, Cambridge Symphony Orchestra, Milton Philharmonic Orchestra, The Royal Conservatory of Music Academy Chamber Orchestra, Kindred spirits Orchestra, The Greater Toronto Philharmonic orchestra, Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra in Vietnam and China GuiYang Symphony Orchestra. J J has been featured on “Metro morning” in Toronto, CBC Music and Classical 96.3 FM. At the age of 12, he was selected as one of CBC MUSIC’s “30 Hot Classical Musicians Under 30”.

In May, 2019, as one of 24 competitors chosen from 230 applications worldwide, J J will compete in Van Cliburn Junior International Piano competition held in Dallas, USA from May 31 to June 8, 2019.

The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition is one of the most prestigious international Piano Competitions in the world and named in honour of Van Cliburn, who won the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1958. Famous Chinese pianists HaoChen Zhang and Sa Chen are previous prizes winners in Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The 2019 Cliburn Junior competitors hail from all over the world, representing 11 countries: the United States (7), China (5), Japan (4), Canada (3), Hong Kong (2), Armenia, Australia, Austria, Russia, South Korea, and Taiwan (includes three dual representations). They range in age from 13 to 17 with two 13-, four 14-, seven 15-, five 16-, and six 17-year-olds. A selection jury chose the 24 competitors from an impressive applicant pool of 230 young pianists from 32 countries, through online applications and video submissions of 15 to 20 minutes.
