Event description

Description

Spend a memorable evening in the Okotoks Performing Arts Centre's intimate setting with the smooth, timeless and iconic music of James Taylor. International award-winning singer/songwriter Jim Reader is joined by his singing daughters and two talented veteran musicians.

Trent Worthington, Former Acting Artistic Director of PROCORO (Canada's foremost professional chamber choir from Edmonton, AB), says: "With Jim's remarkable guitar work, accomplished musicians and exceptional family harmonies, this is simply great music!"

Jim is a seasoned performer with over 40 years since his first 'paid' gig. He has run the musical gamut form rock, pop, folk, country, cowboy and roots genres. His earliest and most consistent idol has been James Taylor, so 42 years after performing his first JT song, Jim decided to swallow the songwriter's pride and take on the ominous challenge of doing justice to a full evening of JT's great music. Voila! His daughters, Julie and Jacqui , add some awesome harmonies and are professional singers in their own right. Instrumentally, Jim is joined by smooth keyboard artist Neil Henry and bass virtuoso Wes Caswell.

Jim's performing highlights include being a key member of a band that shared the stage in the early years with the likes of Kenny Rogers, B.J. Thomas and Tommy James and the Shondells. He's won a few songwriting contests including the theme song for the Western Canada Summer Games. Over the years, Jim has written numerous commercial 'jingles' as well as theme music for corporate conventions and events. In 2011, he was awarded "Western Album of the Year" from the National Traditional Country Music Association and the Rural Roots Music Commission in the USA.

Jim and his wife Marion share 5 wonderful adult children and enjoy life in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies.
