About this event

In this beginner-friendly class at Saskatoon Makerspace, students will learn the basics of laser cutting and engraving and how to create their own custom designs using design software. The class will cover topics such as types of laser cutters, materials suitable for laser cutting, and basic laser cutting and engraving settings. Participants will learn how to create vector designs using Adobe Illustrator, and how to import their designs to the laser cutter software. Students will also learn how to prepare materials for cutting and engraving, operate the laser cutter, and perform basic trouble-shooting. Through hands-on practice and guided instruction, students will create their own small laser-cut object to take home. This class is suitable for beginners with little to no experience in laser cutting or digital design. All materials and tools will be provided. By the end of the class, students will have a foundational understanding of laser cutting and engraving and will be able to continue exploring this exciting field. A basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator is an asset but not required!

*Each student also receives a material starter pack with 18 different laser engravable materials , such as acrylic, wood, and veneer, to further explore!

* Participants must me be 14 years of age or older, ages 14 - 16 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. *

Standard cancellation policy applies to all tickets.
