About this event

Facilitator: Georganne Oldham & Kathryn Thomson

Description:

It has been nearly three years since the Covid pandemic dramatically changed how we work and lead others—hybrid work, resource shortages, and increased workload demands to name just a few. We’ve been asked to adapt, create new processes, and pivot in ways we couldn’t have imagined prior to the disruption of the past few years. The new reality is that the changes and transitions leaders are currently facing are continuous, and the idea of a “return to normal” is a myth.

Leading in unpredictable, uncertain, and unstable circumstances is unavoidably fraught with anxiety at personal, departmental, institutional, and global levels. In this session, we'll offer you models to help you make sense of what is happening around you and better equip you to lead yourselves and others in new ways in these times of unrelenting change.

This session will offer leaders (at any level at SFU) conceptual frameworks and practical tools for living and leading in times of continuous transition. Some of the concepts we will cover are:

• Engaging teams and other networks through communication

• Understanding the psychology of continuous change and transition

• Adaptive vs technical leadership
