About this event

Weathering the Storm: Addressing the Complex Issue of Aggression Toward Families / Caregivers in Childhood and Adolescence (AFCCA)

AFCCA’ describes a pattern of behaviour characterized by aggressive behaviour toward family members or other caregivers, causing significant harm (physical and/or psychological) to the child/adolescent, the person(s) the behaviour is directed toward, and witnessing family members. AFCCA is frequently unreported and not yet widely discussed, as families often experience stigma and shame when seeking help. Join Maude Champagne and Tracy Moisan as they share research highlighting the breadth of this issue in Canada followed by an overview of two ground-breaking Canadian initiatives developed to improve outcomes for families experiencing AFCCA.

Tracy is Program Director for the National Consortium on Aggression toward Family/Caregivers in Childhood and Adolescence (AFCCA). With Adopt4Life, Tracy leads strategic programs that connect deep understanding of families’ needs with the implementation and operational disciplines that create catalysts for change. She is an advocate for deepening family engagement in research, partnering on multiple research studies, and is a founding director of two provincial FASD parent peer support networks. Tracy’s 25+ years’ experience in marketing / communications leadership spans the non-profit and technology sectors, including with global brands such as DocuSign and Adobe.

Maude is also a Neurosciences Ph.D. Candidate from Queen’s University with a specialty in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Trauma, and Aggression toward Family/Caregivers in Childhood & Adolescence (AFCCA). She is also a registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist, and completed her MSW with a thesis on the experiences of parents raising children with FASD and developmental trauma while undergoing Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). In the past, Maude was closely involved in the implementation of the FASD Keyworker Program in Vancouver, and the FASD Worker Program in Ottawa. She is a sought-after expert and bilingual speaker for related trainings and conferences, with a passion for sharing ideas, strategies, and resources that support families
