About this event

Do you ever wonder how public art becomes…. public art? When you explore the city’s public art do you ever think about who created it, who decides where it goes, what it represents, or how it transforms neighbourhoods? If you’ve ever been curious, join CityHive for our next event in our Meet (Y)our City Series, in collaboration with Vancouver Mural Festiva,l to answer these questions and more.

With art and public space at the heart of this event, VMF+CityHive will be co-hosting a dialogue-centred walking tour followed by a social to brew over your highlights with others. Through dialogue we hope to uncover how process around the challenges and triumphs of public art in Vancouver are painted into the fabric of the city.

Led by staff from Vancouver Mural Festival, the guided tour will last approximately 1.5 hours and showcase the colourful transformation of the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood while connecting you with artists' visions and behind-the-scenes stories. Following the tour, we will end the day with food, brews and conversation about all things arts, culture and how we can make our city a more accessible & inclusive place to live, create and play in.

To continue to support local art organizations the cost of the walking tour is 15$ for students and 20$ for adults. No one will be turned away for a lack of funds.

We have a limited number of spots on the tour to keep the group size appropriate, so please RSVP because spots will go fast! Details on the exact meeting location and how to purchase tickets will be sent out via email.

This event aims to include as many people with diverse abilities as possible by reducing as many barriers as possible. If you are interested in attending and need support with the cost or have any accessibility questions or concerns email joan@cityhive.ca.
