Millennium Park Placemaking Public Lecture
Event Information
Description
The City of St. Albert, is undertaking a placemaking concept design for Millennium Park. Placemaking is about working with the community to create lively public spaces that infuse neighbourhoods with a new sense of vibrancy. Placemaking serves to strengthen the connection between people and the places they share through a highly collaborative process.
Millennium Park is a key element of the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) and will play a critical role in Downtown St. Albert. Millennium Park will be a multi-use and programmable space connecting the existing Lions Park, St. Albert Place, the new St. Anne Promenade, Red Willow Park and surrounding areas. Its relationship with surrounding development and the river will contribute to the success of St. Albert’s revitalizing Downtown.
To build the momentum for the project and to engage the public in a broader conversation, the City of St. Albert has invited international expert on placemaking, Cynthia Nikitin from Project for Public Spaces, to give a keynote presentation to introduce placemaking in the context of St. Albert.
Cynthia Nikitin has led numerous large-scale multi-sectoral projects during her twenty- five years with Project for Public Spaces. Cynthia’s technical expertise stretches from the development of downtown master plans, transit facility and station area enhancement projects, to the creation of corridor-wide transportation and land use strategies, to the development of public art master plans for major cities, and the coalescing of government buildings, libraries and cultural institutions into civic centers.
