About this event


Join us to dismantle Islamophobia and racism in the country by working to combat the spread of online hate!

Take part in a national effort with talented individuals from around the country to develop and create practical solutions to prevent the proliferation of racist and hateful rhetoric online, and the spread of misinformation that contributes to its growth.

The NCCM Hackathon to End Online Hate is a coding and data analytics competition where teams of developers are challenged to provide innovative tech-based solutions to stop the spread of online hate.

The competition will be judged by a panel of prominent leaders within the North American Technology sector. Stay tuned for a big announcement with details of our exciting judging panel!

More Details:

The Hackathon is two-day event where participants in groups of 5 will have 48 hours to develop their solutions on October 15th and 16th. All participating groups will be asked to present their submission for the preliminary judging round held on October 17th.

The Grand Finale: The top 5 teams selected from preliminary judging will then present their solution to a panel of renowned judges later in the evening of October 17th. The Grand Finale will be concluded with a virtual Evening Banquet. The top-3 teams announced will be awarded cash prizes (October 17th).

The Hackathon will also include networking sessions where attendees can meet with executives from prominent organizations across the Tech sector to discuss mentoring and career opportunities. Stay tuned for more!

*Disclaimer: There are limited spots available to participate in the competition. If the program is oversubscribed, participants that have not been selected to proceed will be notified by September 30th.

*Note: The in-person portion of the Hackathon is set to be held, COVID restrictions permitting, in 4 cities across Canada - Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Details will be announced soon as evolving COVID restrictions are assessed.
