Join us June 25-26th for the 2024 Northern Nevada Teacher Education Workshop. We are offering two fun-filled days of rocks, minerals, and mining. This workshop will be our 39th Annual Workshop in Northern Nevada. The workshop is provided FREE to teachers, everything is provided by the Nevada Mining Association members and the Nevada Division of Minerals.

The goal of the workshop is to educate K-12 Nevada teachers about earth sciences, the importance of mined materials, and the role that mining plays in our lives. Classroom materials and lessons will be provided to all who attend. All lessons are Nevada standards-based and fit the new STEM standards.

  • Receive and share information to increase knowledge of the earth sciences.
  • Analyze information to develop lesson plans appropriate to all grade levels.
  • Understand the importance of mining and the minerals industry in today's society.
  • Teachers can receive continuing education credit for attending.

Itinerary

Day 1: Teachers will attend classroom and general sessions in the auditorium.

Day 2: Teachers will gather in the auditorium for some group presentations followed by prize drawings for a microscope, books, rocks and other prizes! We will then depart in the late morning for a local geology and/or mining tour .

All food, beverages, snacks, safety equipment, and travel arrangements for the tours are provided by us! So come join us and see how much mineral education ROCKS!

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

During the tours, we will be visiting active mine sites and you are required to wear closed-toe shoes, full-length pants, and a shirt with some sleeves. If you wear non-suitable clothing, you will not be able to attend the mine tours and will not have enough contact time to earn credit.

Will food and beverages be provided?

Food and beverages will be provided for breakfast and lunch on 4/2 and 4/3 during the workshop. Dinner will be on your own.

Can I bring my kids to the workshop?

No. We cannot allow children under the age of 18 to attend the workshop due to age and safety restrictions.

Can I switch my classes?

You can log into the website and alter your registration at any time up to three days before the workshop starts.
