Nursery Tour and Potluck at ALCLA Native Plants

Join us for an afternoon of connection and learning about native plants with Latifa Pelletier-Ahmed and her team on June 21 at their nursery. Meet the new owners of ACLA Native Plants (2019) who are carrying forward the diverse plant selection that Dr. Al and Pat Fedkenheuer have developed since 1992. Learn the importance of preserving and restoring prairie landscapes using native plants at this informal and interactive gathering.

BRING: Dress for the weather. Bring a potluck item to share, plates/cutlery/cups and a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Please include a little card with ingredients if you can for folks with food sensitivities.

ABOUT ALCLA Native Plants

We are one of only a few plant nurseries in Western Canada dedicated exclusively to native plant production. When you visit us you will have the opportunity to see and learn about local plant species you have never seen before. Native species support most insects and wildlife, so you will also be able to observe unique species of native insects and birds.

Latifa Pelletier-Ahmed will facilitate and discuss the benefits of native plants for restoring ecological integrity, feeding wildlife, reducing water use and mitigating climate change. These benefits apply as much to the home garden as they do to larger landscapes including acreages and restoration projects. You will also learn about the ethnobotanical uses of native plants including as sources of food and medicine.

We will also have an opportunity to observe native plants in their wild environment as well as invasive species, and we will discuss the importance of recognizing the distinction.

Folks who would like to buy plants and seeds can do so in advance of the event and we will have them available for pick-up during the event. Place your order here.

• This event is free and open to everyone! Supervised children are welcome
• Please note there are farm dogs onsite but they will be restrained for the event duration
