Saturday Night Concert: Big Blues Concert with Kat Danser, Debra Power, Darren Johnson and John Rutherford
Kat Danser’s music navigates a paddle steamer from the muddy banks of the Mississippi Delta downriver toward a big ol’ full moon over New Orleans. Dubbed ‘Queen of the Swamp Blues’, this Edmonton-based guitar slinger, songsmith, and blazing vocalist channels the spirit of roots, blues and gospel music pioneers.
Pianist, singer and songwriter Debra Power is known for her powerhouse vocals and sparkling keyboard skills, having built a long list of performance/recording credits across Canada and in the U.S. She is currently on nomination for a WCMA award for Blues Recording of the Year.
For the last ten years, Darren Johnson has been a fixture on the Canadian blues and roots scene - working with the likes of Amos Garrett, Tim Williams, Jim Byrnes,John Lee Sanders, and The Blind Boys of Alabama to name a few. Hailing from Okotoks, Alberta, Darren spends most of his time touring the western provinces of Canada as either a solo or duo act.
As a musician John Rutherford is often a member of several bands juggling dates, tours and projects simultaneously. He produces records and has written and produced music for film and television. A guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, John has just recently released his debut solo project with a recording called Echo Broadcast.
