Event description
This workshop helps participants experience the power of sharing their personal story. Show & Tell will be the catalyst to dig deeper.

About this Event

This one-day workshop will help participants experience the power of sharing their personal story. We will work on opening up to others, speaking emotionally in front of the group and relive personal experiences in a candid, present, entertaining way. The brought items for Show & Tell will act as a catalyst for participants to dig a deeper, building a connection to a past moment that moves them.

This workshop is a sample of the Personal Experience Performance Series, an 8-part series that supports participants to share their personal stories through poetry, comedy and storytelling. This series will begin in the fall, feel free to reach out for more information.

About Facilitator Anto Chan

Anto creates moments of connection by speaking candidly with audiences through multiple spoken word mediums including poetry, storytelling and comedy. Recently, Anto has combined all his talents into a one-person show called “Love So Far,” which debuted at the Montreal Fringe Festival 2019. After the success and reception of his show, he will be bringing it to Toronto for a 2nd run in the fall.

For the past 12 years, Anto has been performing for a variety of audiences. He has toured across Asia and Canada as a stand-up comedian, travelled as a motivational speaker, produced storytelling shows such as Dare Storytelling, and featured on Poetry Shows Shab’e’Sher, Wild Writers, Rise Poetry and Guelph Poetry Slam. He was featured on the front page of Reddit and has won multiple awards for his work as a performance artist.

Anto’s most moving experience running this type of workshop was on a trip to Rajasthan and Udaipur India. He helped participants create personal stories that they would share with the rest of the group. Highlighting why they chose to visit India, they shared stories of raising funds, relatable challenges and why they decided to contribute to the community’s education project. Through deeper understanding of storytelling, humour, and emotional candidness, the participants provided incredible insight into their unique lives.

Review of his show “Love So Far” highlighting strength in sharing our personal story through Poetry, Comedy & Storytelling.

“His nuanced and honest portrayal of life lessons is refreshing, and his perspective is admirably positive. In his revisiting of special moments, both beautiful and painful, Chan exhibits a gratitude for all life’s teachings about love and chances to grow. He explains the purpose of sharing these stories: to go back and understand why these situations happened the way they did.”

Review of his show “Shed Talks” from the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2016.

“Chan’s greatest accomplishment in Shed Talks is his ability to relax and be himself. His ease is contagious. This is a performer who knows his strengths: comedy, poetry, storytelling.”
