Paint Your Spirit Animal - Workshop

June 8th 10 AM -5 PM

This introductory acrylic painting class is all levels and all ages and will teach you the tools you need to create an 8x10 spirit animal painting on wood panel. While this class is beginner level, you will have the opportunity to book another session should you wish to continue progress. All supplies included. The only things you need to bring: inspiration photo (unless you plan to paint the image that I am painting which will be a surprise), lunch and a positive mindset!

Our day:

10AM - Class starts at ten AM sharp so please plan to arrive early. You are welcome to come up early or stay later and enjoy the beautiful Oyama Lake with 27 islands. We will have a 1-2 hour special on paddle board, canoe and kayak rentals should you be interested in exploring the lake before or after class. Please call ahead to reserve.

We will begin by demonstrating colored grounds as well as how to create an outline in charcoal pencil. Once the outline has been completed we will learn how to create a grisaille underpainting.

1PM - One hour break for lunch. Please bring your own lunch as we do not serve meals at the lodge however non alcoholic drinks and light snacks will be provided. You are able to continue painting through the lunch break should you wish.

2PM - 5PM After lunch we will learn about color glazing and mediums to slow down the drying time of your paint. While this stage takes many layers to create a finished painting, you will then have all of the necessary information for finishing your painting on your own time or coming back to paint with us on another painting date!

Accomodation is not included or necessary, however should you wish to stay the weekend you are able to book a campsite for $45 per night or a cabin starting at $100 for two beds. Feel free to check out our options at www.oayamalake.com

This workshop is a part of an ART WEEKEND in Oyama Lake Lodge. Combine this class with the Whimsical India Ink workshop by Yulia Tsinko on June 9th and save $50 (coupon for the second workshop will be emailed to you when you sign up for this class).

Statement:

Living in an off-grid cabin in the woods has had quite on affect on my artwork. Having lived in a big city for 12 years I always felt like there was a block preventing me from finding my true inspiration. Now that I am surrounded by trees, water, islands, cabins and animals, I find it much easier to amalgamate these elements into a whimsical narrative. As a child I was always drawn to story books with intricate artwork involving nature and animals and now as an adult I feel blessed to be able to spend my time re-creating similar fantasies.
