About this event

  • 3 hours

The Pinch Cabaret is KW’s monthly variety show, performance laboratory, and community arts party. An unexpected mix of comedy, RnB, theatre, clown, poetry, opera and who knows what else!

VOTED KW’S FAVOURITE LOCAL EVENT BY THE READERS OF THE WATERLOO CHRONICLE!

This edition of Pinch Cabaret will be guest-hosted multi-talented poet, comic, and musician Braeden Etienne. Get ready for a diverse bill that will surprise and delight audiences while bringing together disparate artistic communities!

Featuring:

  • blankie (KW lofi pop / RnB) is the solo musical project of self taught multidisciplinary artist Tori Dawn. blankie utilizes minimalism and limitation to create a unique sound blending whimsical synth beats with delicate, soulful vocalization and introspective lyrics.
  • Disco Lagoon is a sketch comedy group from KW that makes videos that compromise their careers and threaten their livelihood. The recipients of their own suffering are Cameron Weir and Luke Webster. For Pinch they’ll present a collection of 5 original sketches.
  • Grand River Opera brings classic opera works to the Waterloo Region, featuring local talent, and making opera accessible. Danielle Aprile (Soprano), Autumn Wachser (Soprano), Gabriella Bell-Divincenzo (Mezzo-soprano), and Marcel Van Helden (Tenor) present solo and duet selections by Verdi, Mozart, and Puccini
  • Allyson Margaret Proulx (Ally.P, they/she) lives along Deshkan Ziibi. Free Palestine. Free Congo. Free Sudan. Land Back. Ally is a clown of the revolution.
  • Maria Colonescu has been an active creator for almost fifteen years, working in both theatre and film as an actor, director, writer, designer, editor, and producer, picking up several awards along the way. An interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Transylvania, this solid cultural core influences many aspects of her practice. Maria also has an old, battered, violin case that has not been opened in about 5 years. At Pinch, she will open it and share what's inside - memories, dust, and maybe a few notes.
  • Ciarán Myers is a dreaming scheming try-hard with too much education and moss in his socks. His stage plays have been performed across borders, he's danced for audiences big and small, and yet he still sunburns easily. He's proud to say this might be his fourth or fifth time pinchin'. Ciarán is going to take your tickets, make change, speak some poetry, stack the chairs, and steal some convivial side-eye.
  • Guest Host Braeden Etienne (he/them) is a writer, poet, comedian, and a lot of other things too. It depends who they're talking to. Braeden has performed at Hillside Festival, Guelph Comedy Festival, Ottawa Improv Festival, Guelph Fringe Festival and the festivals they create in their bedroom. In June, Braeden will emerge from the dark dank of the Pinch tech booth to guest host the show.
