Provincial Gathering

We invite you to register for the 5th provincial gathering for First Nations investigating the sites of former Indian Residential Schools and Indian Hospitals in BC. This gathering will be hosted by the Nadleh Whut’en First Nation and will be held at the at the Nadleh Whut’en Yah Gymnasium (823 Nautley Road, Nadleh, BC, Canada).

This is an opportunity for lead communities to come together to strengthen relationships, share information, and discuss plans, approaches, and promising practices.First Nations and Tribal Councils who have been identified as the lead community or coordinating body for work on the sites of former Indian Residential Schools and Indian Hospitals in BC are invited to send two (2) representatives to the provincial gathering. The Province of BC will cover the cost of travel, accommodation, and meals for these two (2) representatives. This is an in-person event with limited options for virtual participation (eg. viewing presenters). We ask that you please register by Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

An opening dinner will be held at the Nadleh Whut’enne gymnasium on May 14th at 6:00PM followed by the gathering on May 15 (8:30 AM - 4:00PM) and May 16 (8:30AM - 4:00 PM) at the same location.

This gathering is an opportunity to:

• Create a safe and supportive space for lead communities to share information about their investigations and explore solutions to common challenges.

• Share tools, plans, and promising practices for communities at different stages in planning and implementation.

• Discuss current challenges, strengths, and areas for continued collaboration as lead communities.

Health and Wellness:

Please know that the health and safety of participants is a top priority. Any public health measures will be communicated in advance of the event (as applicable). Additionally, due to the sensitive nature of this subject matter, mental health and wellness and cultural supports will be available on site throughout the gathering.

We will provide lunch and refreshments throughout the event.
