THIS MONTH'S TOPIC:
Enhancing Mechanical Seal Reliability - Optimizing Plan 53B for Significant Ambient Temperature Fluctuations
PRESENTER:
Richard Smith, Oil & Gas Development Director at AESSEAL
ABSTRACT:
While the plan 53B is a popular support system for dual mechanical seals, the concerns regarding pressure stability and alarm strategy, due to the effects of climatic temperature changes, have been highlighted in the API 682 (4th edition). This presentation highlights the results of an experiment quantifying pressure variations and explores techniques to mitigate the impact of temperature fluctuations while minimizing operational complexity.
Furthermore, the presentation delves into proposed amendments to the upcoming 5th edition of API 682, aimed at better representing the installed fleet and incorporating advancements in technology.
