Rebuilding Abundance: Oceana Canada Symposium

By Oceana Canada

Date and time

Wed, Oct 26, 2016 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM EDT

Location

The Westin Ottawa

Ottawa, ON K1N 9H4 Canada

Description

Be at the forefront of charting a bold course to rebuild Canada’s fisheries.

On October 26, 2016, take part in Oceana Canada’s science symposium, Rebuilding Abundance: Restoring Canada’s Fisheries for Long-Term Prosperity.

Canadian and international experts in science, management, policy, law, social equity, economics and Indigenous knowledge systems will come together to help create a sustainable future for Canada’s fish and fisheries.

Canada is making more money from our seafood industry than ever before, but we are dependent on a small number of stocks. There is growing evidence that with the right policy, management and enforcement measures in place, we can rebuild our fisheries and communities for long-term prosperity.

The symposium program will address these important questions:

  • What are the opportunities for recovery and growth of our fisheries?
  • What policy changes will best support healthy fisheries and oceans?
  • What reforms are needed to increase abundance and ensure the fair and equitable distribution of resources?
