Remade Upcycle Sewing event presents Refashionista Swap & Chop - a clothing upcycle session.
This 3 hour session will be a great opportunity to experiment with upcycle sewing... attempt one of those DIY projects from Pinterest, recreate the fit of one of your favorite tops, or follow one of the patterns available. Adventurous beginners to seasoned seamsters, all are welcome. Come with a project in mind or just see where the upcycle takes you.
We will work from a selection of clothing brought together by participants and co-hosts. Using basic sewing skills, each participant will refashion clothing into a unique creation to take home. In this session especially we endeavor to cultivate a ‘just try it’ environment where anything is possible. Let’s have some fun playing with fashion.
WHAT TO BRING:
Participants are encouraged to bring clothing items they no longer use and see if we can give them new life.
For Refashionista: bring an item that fits well to be used as a size template for your creation and/or an item that you'd like to recreate.
If you have a sewing machine you'd like to use in a supported environment, you are welcome to bring.
WHAT IF I CAN'T SEW:
This is a shared learning environment with participants of all sewing skill levels attending. My mom is coming, so we’re all set!
WHAT IS PROVIDED:
All the tools and equipment for sewing are available (ie. sewing machines, iron/boards, thread, etc.)
Session inspiration boards will be set up. Add your ideas to the mix!
A selection of clothing for upcycling will be available in each session.
Voltage Creative Garage is an awesome and inspiring venue. Centrally located in Marda Loop (across from Original Joe's), it is accessible by transit and has street and limited lot parking available.
