The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy focused on early years and primary education. The approach was developed after World War II by psychologist and pedagogista Loris Malaguzzi in collaboration with parents in the villages around the city of Reggio Emilia in Italy. The approach is based on the belief that children are innately capable of producing knowledge and culture when provided with a rich environment & emergent learning opportunities. In the past few years, the field of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education has become more interested in the rich possibilities this approach provides both to children and educators. Concepts such as emergent curriculum, inquiry-based learning & project-based learning have been more explored by educators both in ECE and elementary schools.

If you are interested in learning more about this approach, this workshop is a great start for you! In this 3 part workshop, we will be exploring the philosophy of the Reggio Emilia approach and some of its most important principles. The workshop will give you the opportunity to understand the Reggio approach better & will serve as an introduction for other workshops to be offered in the near future.

This year, we are offering this well-loved workshop on Zoom. Please let us know if you require extra support ahead of time.

    About the Presenter:

Trish Alsop has been the Early Years Coordinator at The Village @ Lord Nelson Children’s Centre since September 2020, and has been with Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House childcare programs since 2008. She has experience learning alongside children from birth to school age and has three adult children of her own.

What inspires Trish the most about the Reggio Emilia Approach is the strong relationships cultivated between children, adults, the land, the living, and the non- living, and it is her hope to share this inspiration with other educators in the field.
