ABOUT THE OTTAWA QUAD ROLLERSKATING CLUB:

  • We also go by the name of OQS (Ottawa Quad Session), the weekly events we put together.
  • We have been offering social rollerskating opportunities to the Ottawa community for over ten years!
  • We're volunteer-run, we're non-profit, we're fun-driven!
  • We run a year-long program of recreational roller skating for our members and whoever wants to drop in for a spin. We quad weekly most Fridays and throw in a number of roller parties throughout the year for good measure.
  • What we do is only possible thanks to our beautiful volunteers (yellow shirt peeps). If you want to yellow shirt with us, please reach out: ottawaquadsession+YS@gmail.com to volunteer.

Frequently asked questions

-Book them as an add on to your admission and chose the SIZE needed - Usually street shoe size is correct, but if unsure go larger and bring multiple pairs of socks of different thicknesses. There are no half sizes - Please be sure to wear socks regardless

Do I need to wear safety gear?

- ! Youth skaters (<18 yo.) MUST wear head protection to participate. - Head and limb protection is strongly recommended for all - We do not provide safety gear. Participants must bring their own.

Where is the venue? What type of floor does it have?

The Norm Fenn Gymnasium is located in Carleton Athletics' Ice House Building, off University Road at Carleton University. The gymnasium is a full-size basketball court with wooden floors.

Is there somewhere to put my things?

- There are no locker rooms, or coat check available to us. - Most attendees will set their shoes and bags along the edge of the gym. - Any items worn while skating should be secured so they don' t go flying and cause a trip hazard.

What age or experience do I need to participate?

- All Levels and ages are welcome - Youth under 13 y.o. must be directly supervised by an on skate adult. - Youth need to wear a helmet while on skates - Only legal parents/guardians can purchase for their OWN youth(s) <18 y.o., NOT another person's youth - There is a learning area - No strollers

What if tickets are no longer available?

- We run at limited capacity; book early - Eventbrite manages a wait list once sessions sell out - The last releases from the wait list will be ~2 days before the event - Rentals close the day before the event as they need to be picked up from storage. We do not usually have extras.

What are the rules for skating?

- The Safe Skating Code will be enforced. All attendees acknowledge the code when booking admission. And of course as everyone says - have fun!

Where can I take skating lessons?

- We don't offer lessons, but have lots of space to practice what you are learning and eager skaters who are often willing to offer tips and tricks. - The City of Ottawa offers lessons see the Recreation Guide for details. - 4wheelies offers lessons; see their website for details.

Can I practice roller derby at sessions

Skill practice is fine so long as skaters follow the skating code, but we ask that full contact moves not be used due to the unpredictability of where a hit skater may end up.
