The Ballroom Blitz Combo is a little big band comprising of members of the Ballroom Blitz Orchestra. The 11 musicians are a mix of professionals from the local music scene and great up and coming young talent.
The Ballroom Blitz Combo began in 2012 focusing initially on more contemporary material but in time added arrangements of swing and dance tunes to complete a varied repertoire for all functions: Dance, Corporate, Weddings, Celebrations.
The Ballroom Blitz Orchestra was formed in 1999 by Ellen Bockus and Sonia Hubert. It made its name on the local scene in the early 2000s in the area of corporate events where they offer a mix of all styles of dance music. In 2009 the group, under the musical direction of Adam O’Callaghan, decided to focus more on a swing dance repertoire. After one year of research and rehearsals, the band launched a bi–monthly “Les soirées Swing Live” in Old Montreal. These Swing, Jive and Rock & Roll evenings quickly become popular in the swing dance community, leading to larger engagements at the Rialto Theatre and Victoria Hall and drawing 150 to 300 dancers. This continued with regular appearances at Victoria Hall from 2011 to 2020.
Dynamic numbers such as “Sing, Sing, Sing”, “Big Noise from Winnetka” mixed with nostalgic numbers such as “Perdido”, “Makin’ Whoopee”, contemporary swing including “Jump, Jive and Wail”, “Sweet Home Chicago”, and not forgetting the great classics such as “Begin the Begine”, “It Don’t Mean a Thing” and a bit of rock’n roll such as “Shake, Rattle and Roll” is what you can expect from the BBC.
