Event description

Description

Please join Dwayne LaForme’s Boogie Blues and Special Guests Shane Scott and Des Brown.

Engineer/producer/vocalist/bassist (upright & electric) SHANE SCOTT has made a name for himself, winning the Canadian Maple Blues award for "Bassist of the Year 2003" & nominated in 2004. Responsible for over 200 studio recordings, to date. Two receiving Juno awards and two receiving nominations for Blues Album of the Year (both the Juno Awards & the Canadian Independent Awards), as well as, New Blues’ Artist of the Year (Maple Blues Awards) & winner of the CBC’s New Galaxy contest.

Shane has become one of the hardest working bass players on the scene. He was a member of the legendary Jack Dekeyzer band for a number of years & now works regularly with David Rotundo, opening for Canned Heat & playing with Lee Oscar. He occasionally plays/played with Mel Brown, Guitar Shorty, Mark Bird Stafford, J. W-Jones Band, Dr. Nick, Danny Marks, Pete Schmidt, Andy Earl, Dwayne LaForme and Little Bobby and The Jumpstart's.

Shane plays with a powerful but simple approach, often switching between upright string bass and electric bass during live performances. Shane’s main influences on bass are Willie Dixon, Larry Taylor & James Jamison (which can be heard in his playing style). During his time with the Jack Dekeyzer Band, he also had the great privilege of playing with Muddy Waters’ drummer Willie Big Eyes Smith, opened up for B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers.

DES “Downtown” BROWN started playing guitar at the age of 12, in his native Trinidad & Tobago. He was initially influenced by exotic South American Bossa Nova rhythms. Des continued to expand his playing over the years and was exposed to a wide variety of music styles, including Jazz & Blues.

Des moved to Jamaica in the early 60’s where he lived for 2 years and was introduced to Reggae. Des later moved to the US and spent a year, where he further developed his Jazz & Blues styling.

Des came to Canada in the late 60’s, where he joined the Studio 12 Orchestra and played many styles of music for many years.

Des has since joined the David Rotundo Band, performed with Lee Oskar as well as the Shane Scott Band. Des has performed at countless functions/nightclubs, festivals and concerts all over Ontario, Canada as well as Mexico and Europe (including a recent tour of Estonia).

Based on his past exposure and experience, Des has a very unique style of playing.
