Description

Here it is folks, the trip you’ve been waiting for. You’ve done Sumas. You’ve tagged the Tusk. You’re looking for a multi-night, multi-site trip to challenge your backpacking skills. Well, this is it! We’ll spend three nights in the gorgeous Stein Valley, camping along the river in developed, but primitive backcountry campgrounds (bear caches and outhouses provided). During the day we’ll be hiking along the river, meaning that other than one tough section (the Devil’s Staircase), the grade means easy to moderate walking (ie. no switchbacks). Our route will be an out and back starting at the Lytton trailhead. Our objective is the Suspension Bridge Campground, where we’ll access an amazing cliff jump into a large eddy in the river. The river is stunningly beautiful, and is one of the last untouched watersheds in British Columbia. Go to http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/steinvly.html for a full description of the area.

You will need enough food for four days, will be setting up camp each night, and breaking camp each morning. This means careful, mindful packing. Bring what you need, but only what you need. Keep your pack to 1/3 of your body weight and you’ll be just fine. Water is readily available along the trail from the river. Each campground has a pit toilet and a bear locker.

Cost = $40.00
