Description

TITLE

Big Data, Little Understanding

DESCRIPTION

While it is true that data in increasing at an exponential pace, understanding is not. Despite the hype of Big Data, progress in data sensemaking is slow. It relies on analytical skills that can at best be augmented, but never replaced, by technologies. Visual analytics is a human-computer collaboration that will enhance data sensemaking if it focuses on the development of key thinking skills and the technologies that are needed to augment those skills. In his presentation, Stephen Few will describe the potential of visual analytics and how this emerging discipline must be shaped to detect and understand the signals that reside in our world of noisy data.

(The talk is from 6:00 - 7:00 PM, reception follows from 7:00 - 8:00 PM)
