Distinguished Speakers Series:Suicide Awareness - Stories of Hope & Recovery
A FREE, PUBLIC talk on suicide awareness from a lens of hope & recovery. Learn about new research in suicide biomarkers & hear a family’s journey of hope and recovery.
Ann Marie MacDonald, Executive Director of MDAO and Dr. Sidney Kennedy, lead scientist of CAN-BIND, Arthur Sommer-Rotenberg Chair in Suicide Studies and Depression
Dr. Sakina Rizvi, CAN-BIND scientist, will present research on identifying biological and behavioural risk factors for suicide and treatment resistant depression in order to predict treatment outcomes.
David and Deborah Cooper are suicide loss survivors following the death of their son, Eli Cooper in 2010. They will share their poignant story of their family’s journey of hope and recovery.
A panel discussion will take place with an opportunity for a questions from the audience. Light refreshments will also be provided.
We are also providing an opportunity to participate in our Memory Wall, where we will display photos of our loved ones. See below in the FAQ for more information.
What time do the doors open?
Doors will open at 6:30pm and the event will run from 7pm - 9pm. Volunteers will be present to direct you the main auditorium (room 209) or follow the signage in the building. Please try to arrive a few minutes early in order to register, pick up your information package and grab some light snacks.

Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute 209 Victoria Street, is located just north of St. Michael's Hospital in the downtown Toronto core at the north east corner of Victoria St and Shuter Street. The event takes place in the Main Auditorium (Room 209). Google maps link: http://bit.ly/MDAOLKS

For those driving, prices for IMPARK - Evening flat rate (6p.m. - 6a.m.) $8.00
The Li Ka Shing building is accessible from street level and from the main hospital via the bridge from the third floor Cardinal Carter wing. Wheel Trans pick up and drop-off locations: The Queen Street entrance at the south end of the hospital.
What is the Memory Wall?
We want to provide attendees to the event an opportunity to honour their loved ones with a Memory Wall featuring a photo and a caption of "In memory of [first or full name] and dates. Should you like to participate in the Memory Wall, please send the following information, with "Memory Wall - name of loved one" in the subject line to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Tuesday Sept 27th at 5pm:
photo of loved one (highest resolution possible)
Name of loved one (full name or just first)
date of birth to passing (optional)
