About Split Second:
Split Second started in 2010 when Eric Butler (Prince of Wales grad 92) asked his good friend and former UBC T-Bird teammate John Dumont (VC grad 93) to coach with him in a new basketball training program at the Arbutus Club.
John was a fantastic partner to launch a basketball club with. He had a ton of experience helping develop the skills of his 3 young boys (Jack, Hunter and Cole- who were yet to attend VC but would do so shortly). John was the most dedicated of coaches, only missing 2 practices in 5 years to watch his boys play in the Flag football provincials and to run in the Boston Marathon. He and Eric chatted a lot about the philosophy and priorities of Split Second Basketball and his mark on the club remains strong to this day.
In 2024, Split Second primarily runs Skills Training Camps, 3x3 Leagues and Club teams in Vancouver, Richmond and Delta. Our goal is to help young athletes find their path in life through basketball.
