The 7th Asia-Pacific/Arctic Maritime Security Forum

The China Institute at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, the Marine & Environmental Law Institute of Dalhousie University, and the Institute for China-America Studies, presents the 7th Asia-Pacific/Arctic Maritime Security Forum: Ocean Governance in Asia-Pacific and the Arctic.

This year's forum will set the scene on recent developments of maritime security in the South China Sea, Northeast Asia waters, Southeast Asia waters, and the Arctic Ocean. Panelists will discuss different models of ocean governance in Asian and Arctic waters, review the practices of the bodies of UNCLOS Article 287, ICJ, ITLOS, arbitral tribunal/ special arbitration tribunal, and address the practices and the existing challenges for maritime law enforcement in the respective maritime regions.

Panels will address diversified topics with the aim of creating opportunities for cooperation, including shipping, marine environment protection, and marine scientific research, and will explore opportunities for institutional cooperation on ocean governance.
