The Cranium: From a Manual Therapy Perspective – Level II

Specific Objectives:

At the end of the course the participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the anatomy of the cranium and its sutures, including the sutures of the face and maxillo-spheno-palatine complex.

  2. Demonstrate competence in the diagnosis of the 4 quadrant system

  3. Demonstrate competence in the treatment approach of the cranio-sacral system via the dural membranes, fluid techniques and direct mobilizations of cranial sutures, including those of the face.

  4. Understand the influence of restrictions of the fascia / dural tissues on the cranio-sacral system.

Your Instructor: Doreen Killens

Doreen Killens graduated with distinction from McGill University in 1978.

She completed her qualifications for FCAMT in 1993 and since that time, she has been teaching manual therapy across Canada. In addition, she is an examiner for the Orthopaedic Division of the CPA since 1996.

Doreen is co-owner of an orthopaedic clinic in Montreal and has a particular interest in dysfunctions of the cranial, dural and fascial systems. She has found that this combined approach to treatment has been particularly beneficial not only for the treatment of headaches but for “hard to treat” clients with chronic conditions.

Doreen took her first cranio-sacral course with “The Cranial Institute” in 1986 and since then, has taken different courses worldwide, in particular in Australia with Harry von Piekart and more recently in Michigan with Dr. Greenman of Michigan State University, School of Osteopathy. Her approach to the cranial system is therefore a varied one, which incorporates the concepts of manual therapy.

Doreen has also just recently published a book called "Mobilizing the Myofascial System" with Handspring Publishing this year. Below is the front cover image of her new book for those who are interested in checking it out.
