The Drum Has a Heartbeat
Event Information
About this Event
Join us in this Drum Teach-in occurring on March 15th from 4-5 PM AST where Raymond Sewell will share a setlist of songs and their meanings based on his childhood experiences in Pabineau First Nation where he was raised. The songs presented are collections of teachings received from elders mainly his father, Gilbert Sewell, and other relatives.
This gathering will also feature an opening welcome, land acknowledge, and prayer facilitated by Elder Debbie Eisan, from the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre.
Raymond Sewell, MA, is a L'nu musician, educator, and the Indigenous Student Advisor at Saint Mary's University. He is from the Mi'kmaq community of Pabineau, New Brunswick, and started learning to play music at home when he was very young. He's been performing on New-Brunswick and Canadian stages since the early 2000s.
Upon attendance, you will receive a $25 gift card from a business of your choice!
