The Way to Wise and Compassionate Living - Public Talk
Event Information
Description
Due to a flight Delay, The public talk will be cancelled on Friday.
The weekend workshop will continue as planned.
The warm hearted, humorous, articulate, and accessible Geshe Sherab will be speaking on the essence of Wise and Compassionate Living, introducing a multiple year series providing a commentary on one of the most treasured texts of Mahayana Buddhism: Shantideva's "Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life'. A Bodhisattva in "The Bodhisattva's Way of Life" is someone who is striving for Bodhi (wisdom of the ultimate nature of reality) as a remedy for the suffering of all beings through being a Sattva (someone motivated by universal compassion).
One of the Dalai Lama's most treasured prayers comes from this text:
As long as space remains,
As long as living beings remain,
Unil then may I too remain
To dispel the suffering of the world.
This text contains many expressive metaphors and very practical methods for cultivating compassion and wisdom and for recognizing and counteracting their opposites, self centeredness and other disturbing emotions. The Dalai Lama has said "If I have any understanding of compassion and the practice of the Bodhisattva path, it is entirely on the basis of this text that I possess it."
All are welcome to discover the inspiration of the beloved classic.
