So you’re finishing residency soon –what do you need to know about taxes? Quite a bit actually, and we’ll cover all of the basics. Among all of the other changes when you are transitioning to practice, tax planning will play an important role. You can expect that taxes will actually be your number one expense, so proper planning will have a significant impact on your financial affairs. Tax planning should start early, as there are potential pitfalls to avoid before you begin practice, which we will talk about. We’ll also cover items such as what you can and cannot deduct, when and how you should expect to pay taxes, discuss what incorporation is, and when it makes sense.
