About this event

There will be two tours taking place on Tech Thursday. Please have a look at which one you would like to attend and select that time slot at checkout. Both tours will be meeting in the Innovation Complex Rotunda before starting. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before start time.

12:00 to 1:00 PM - Campus Green Features Tour:

This tour will visit some of the campus’ green features. Stormwater management, green roofs, transportation initiatives, and LEED buildings will be viewed and discussed. Attendees will get an overview of many of the initiatives and infrastructure projects that UTM has undertaken to reduce our environmental footprint. This tour will be less technical than the geothermal tour and will cover a wider array of initiatives.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.

1:00 to 2:00 PM - Geothermal Tour:

Learn about the ground-source heat pump system that provides low-carbon heating and cooling to the LEED silver certified Instructional Building at UTM. In this tour, attendees will learn about how the ground-source heat pump works and how it saves energy compared to a conventional system. Attendees will get a chance to view some of the components of the system, such as the mechanical room piping and pumps.

Attendees will also learn about other energy-saving features of the building, such as the solar photovoltaic system, energy recovery wheel, and rainwater reuse system. Closed shoes must be worn for this tour. Ear protection and safety glasses will be provided.
