INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN AN ARTS BASED COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROJECT

This arts-based community action project seeks to uncover the human dimensions of the toxic drug poisoning crisis as it has unfolded locally in Campbell River. Within and through it, a group of artist-researchers, front-line workers and people with lived and living experience have banded together in a sprit of solidarity, attempting to come to terms with the impact of the crisis on individuals and community groups through a practice of story sharing. Through stories, we aim to cultivate awareness leading to change.

Where? Participants meet at the studio space of the Campbell River Art Gallery

Please Note:

This a 3-hour event. The first hour of this event is dedicated to paying respect and holding space for those we have lost to this crisis. Following this space, we will host a Story Walk.
Each Story Walk lasts for approximately 45 minutes, and is followed by a Sharing Circle that is also approximately 45 minutes in length - where we serve soup and respond together to the stories. Walks begin and end at Spirit Square, and travel through surrounding parks and neighbourhoods.

Please dress for the weather, including rain gear as needed and walking shoes. Listening options are available for people not wishing or able to walk.

We ask that people register to ensure a place, though we welcome drop-ins (space permitted).

Group Registrations: Should you have difficulties finding a time that works for your group, please call Sharon Karsten (Project Facilitator) 250-650-3794 to discuss options. This Eventbrite platform limits registrations to 6 people per group. Please contact Sharon if you wish to bring a larger group.

Parents/Guardians: Stories contain mature content, including accounts of individual struggles with addiction and stigma. Parental and personal discretion is advised.
