About this event

Gordon Neighbourhood House (GNH) is proud to hosts West End Community Clean-up events to bring together people who are passionate about keeping their community clean and beautiful. Our program is driven by hundreds of dedicated volunteers of all ages who join our Community Cleanups events and contribute thousands of hours to keep our community clean and sustainable. People are encouraged to come together at our Community Cleanups to have fun keeping our West End residential sidewalks clean and beautiful. A group of participants gather at Gordon Neighbourhood House (1019 Broughton Street) and enjoy volunteering by dedicating a couple of hours outdoors to keep our sidewalks and parks clean and sustainable. Our events may include a free community barbeque, a free community hot breakfast, a chance for a free community vest or gift and may also engage or involve a partner or sponsor at the event. Breakfast will be from 9 a.m.to 10 a.m. and the clean-up will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Breakfast will be at Gordon Neighbourhood House and the clean-up commences and ends at Gordon Neighbourhood House as well (1019 Broughton Street). Most events will have a breakfast except for May 25th where the West End Business Association will be hosting a barbeque after the clean up from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

All participants must register for the event on Eventbrite prior to attending. On the day of the event volunteers are paired in twos and are equipped with all supplies and tools (this includes the route to cover, a garbage bag, pa air of gloves and a child or adult picker). Volunteers are given guidelines on what to collect and not to collect. The clean-up lasts for about two hours and commence and end at Gordon Neighbourhood House. Community Clean-ups occur on Saturdays between April and September, and at various times throughout the year for organized groups. We are planning our first weekday event this year, on a Thursday, which will be an after Fireworks event. Dates are confirmed as follows for 2024: April 27, May 25th, June 22nd, July 25th, August 17th and September 7th.
