Description

This May, WestGrid will be bringing its four-day Research Computing Summer School to the University of Calgary (UofC), hosted in partnership with UofC Research Computing Services and the Schulich School for Engineering. Courses will explore topics in:

  • high performance computing
  • parallel programming
  • machine learning
  • research computing with Python / R / MATLAB / C / C++ / Chapel
  • scientific visualization

Cost:

Participants only need to register and pay once to attend as many or as few courses as they would like.

  • Researcher / Student / Staff @ a WestGrid Member Institution*: $35
    (This includes faculty, students of all levels, postdocs, staff)
  • Researcher / Student / Staff @ a Non-Member
    Institution: $45
    (This includes faculty, students of all levels, postdocs, staff)
  • Public / Industry / Non-Academic: $100

*WestGrid Member institutions include the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, University of Victoria, University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Saskatchewan, and University of Manitoba.


Who Should Participate:

  • Anyone interested in building knowledge and skills for computational research
  • All research disciplines and skill levels are welcome to register. Some courses may require some pre-requisite knowledge. Please see the notes below and check the course descriptions for more details.


Pre-Requisites:

  • All participants will require a base level of knowledge or skill in programming and using Linux. For example, you must be familiar with tasks such as:
    - Listing files and directories
    - Making directories
    - Changing to a different directory
    - Copying, moving, and removing files and directories
    - Displaying and searching the contents of a file

  • Some courses will require additional or more advanced level knowledge or programming skills. Check the course descriptions for more details.

  • All academic participants must have a Compute Canada account. To register for a Compute Canada account, click here. Non-academic registrants will be provided a temporary guest account.

  • We strongly encourage all participants to obtain an Eduroam account through their institution. This will provide you with a reliable wifi network connection while on campus. To get an Eduroam account, contact your local IT Department.
