Communication & Digital Capabilities

In-Person Workshop: Concordia University Library, LB-205

Offered in collaboration with Concordia University Library

Have you heard about Generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT) but are not sure how to interact with these tools? This session will provide an overview of "prompt engineering": the process of crafting and structuring text to effectively communicate with generative AI models. Core concepts and best practices of prompt engineering, as well as how you can use these tools in all aspects of your life will also be discussed.

Hands-on activities will be used to demonstrate various prompting techniques while exploring text generating AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity, as well as image generators such as DALL-E 3 image generator via Microsoft Copilot. You will learn how to optimize these tools in your school, work, and personal life.

Facilitators: Melissa Rivosecchi, Teaching & Research Librarian, Social Sciences, Concordia University Library; Megan Fitzgibbons, Instructional Services Coordinator, Concordia University Library

Frequently asked questions

What is FutureBound?

FutureBound is the Student Success Centre's skill development program for undergraduate students at Concordia. Our program helps you develop the professional skills you need to successfully transition from university into the workplace of tomorrow.

What are the Core Skill Modules?

Workshops and events are grouped under 6 modules based on workplace trends so you can be confident, adaptable, & forward-thinking: Communication & Digital Capabilities | Leadership & Collaboration | Career Development | Innovation & Entrepreneurship | Growth & Balance | Financial Literacy

Who can attend a FutureBound workshop?

FutureBound is free & offered to current undergraduates and recent alumni at Concordia. FutureBound often collaborates with GradProSkills and other Concordia units whose audience includes graduate students - these workshops are open to all Concordia students.

What should I expect?

FutureBound is free, interactive, and offers flexibility for your schedule. You can attend workshops at your own pace or complete a certificate in one semester. Expect 15-50 students in a super safe, welcoming environment that fosters connection between students from different disciplines.

Who are the facilitators?

FutureBound works with expert facilitators across industries to bring you diverse & experienced perspectives. Facilitators are private industry professionals, entrepreneurs & coaches, university employees, or academic professors. All facilitators share an interest in your skill development!

Are workshops offered online or in-person?

FutureBound workshops are a mix of online and in-person offerings. The location (either a classroom or zoom link) will be noted on the Eventbrite page and sent to you via email. We do not record any of our workshops, but we do send follow-up resources to students who attend.

How does the certification work? When will I get it?

By completing 4 workshops per core skill module, you earn a module certificate. Certificates can be showcased on your LinkedIn, your CV, or your Concordia Co-Curricular Record. PDF certificates are sent via email to eligible students at the end of each academic semester - no need to apply.

Is there any form of assessment?

We ask you to submit a reflection form after each workshop and if you complete a core skill module so that you reflect on the impact of your experiences and confidently articulate your skills to various audiences. This is an essential task to earn a certificate and helps us continue to improve!
